How I stopped drowning in spreadsheets and switched to Notion

The exact workflow that saved me 10 hours a week and gave me back my Sundays.

For two years, I managed my freelance business in a Google Sheet. It had 12 tabs, color-coded cells, and a conditional formatting rule for almost everything. It was a mess. Every Sunday, I'd spend two hours reconciling data, updating statuses, and wondering why I felt behind before the week even started.

The breaking point came when I accidentally deleted a column of client data and spent four hours rebuilding it. That's when I finally moved to Notion. Not because it was trendy, but because I needed a system that didn't fall apart every time I made a typo.

I started with a simple database: one for clients, one for projects, one for invoices. I linked them with relations and rollups so that updating a project status automatically updated my dashboard. No more manual data entry. No more 12-tab spreadsheets. The first week, I saved 10 hours.

Now I build templates that replicate that same logic: connected databases that do the heavy lifting. If you're still managing your business in spreadsheets, I promise there's a better way. It starts with one database and a willingness to try something new.
