How to Build a Content Operations Dashboard in Notion (Even If You’re Not a Notion Expert)
A practical walkthrough for setting up a content dashboard that tracks ideas, drafts, and published posts without the overwhelm.
If you’re a solo creator, you’ve probably felt the chaos of managing content across platforms. I did too, until I built a simple Notion dashboard that tracks everything from idea to published post. Here’s how to do it in under an hour.
Start with four databases: Content Ideas, Drafts, Published, and Platforms. Link them together using relations. The key is to keep it simple — don’t add 20 properties you’ll never use. I use status, platform, publish date, and a URL field.
Create views for each stage. My dashboard has a board view for ideas, a calendar view for publishing schedule, and a table for published posts. This gives you a bird’s-eye view without digging through menus.
The magic is in the automation. Set up a template for each new idea that includes prompts for title, angle, and target audience. When you move an idea to Drafts, it automatically shows up in your writing view. When you mark it published, it moves to the archive.
This system took me from scattered notes to a streamlined workflow. I know what’s coming, what’s in progress, and what’s live — all in one place. If you’re spending more time managing content than creating it, give this a try.
