How to Build a Second Brain in Notion Without the Overwhelm
Stop collecting random notes and start building a second brain that actually works. Here’s a simple framework to get started.
The phrase 'second brain' gets thrown around a lot, but most systems fall apart because they’re too complicated. You end up spending more time organizing your notes than using them. The solution isn’t more folders — it’s a better capture process.
Start with just four lists: Inbox, Projects, Resources, and Archive. Everything you capture goes into Inbox first. Once a week, you sort it into Projects (actionable), Resources (reference), or Archive (old). That’s it. No nested tags, no complex relational databases.
Once that feels natural, you can add a Dashboard that pulls your next actions from each project. Use a simple filter to show only tasks that are due today. This way, your second brain becomes a place you actually visit, not just a digital junk drawer.
The key is to build the habit first, then optimize. You can always add more structure later. But if you start with a 20-database system, you’ll burn out in a week.
