How to Build a Simple Project Dashboard in Notion (No Coding Required)
A practical step-by-step guide to creating a dashboard that tracks tasks, deadlines, and progress — without overcomplicating it.
I’ve seen too many creators over-engineer their Notion dashboards. They add 15 databases, complex formulas, and automations that break after one edit. But the best dashboards are simple: they show you what needs attention and what’s on track.
Start with one database called “Projects.” Add properties: Status (dropdown: Not Started, In Progress, Waiting, Done), Deadline (date), and Priority (select: Low, Medium, High). That’s it. Then create a linked view on your dashboard that filters for “Not Started” and “In Progress.” You’ll see your active work instantly.
Next, add a “Today’s Tasks” view using a second database for tasks, with a relation to Projects. Filter by Deadline = today. This keeps you focused without digging into every project. If you want to take it further, group by Priority or add a progress bar formula — but only if it saves you time, not just for looks.
The real win is consistency. Spend 5 minutes each morning updating Status and Deadline. Within a week, you’ll have a reliable system that adapts as your business grows.
