How to Build an Ideal Week Template in Notion (Without Overcomplicating It)
A practical guide to creating a weekly planner in Notion that actually helps you focus, not just look pretty.
If you're like most creative entrepreneurs, you've probably tried a dozen productivity apps and ended up with a messy pile of notes. The key to a useful weekly template is to start with your real priorities, not a complex system. Here's how I build my own Ideal Week template that keeps me on track without feeling restrictive.
First, create a page with a calendar view and a database for tasks. Each task should have a date, a priority (high, medium, low), and a status (to-do, doing, done). But don't stop there — add a section for 'wins' at the end of each day, and a space for notes. This gives you a record of what you actually accomplished, not just what you planned.
Then, set up formulas to show your total tasks completed and your current streak. Seeing those numbers go up is oddly motivating. But the real magic is the 'Today' view: a filtered view that shows only what's due today. It eliminates the anxiety of a long list by breaking it down into manageable chunks.
Finally, be honest about what you can do in a day. I used to overestimate my capacity and end every week feeling behind. Now I schedule three big tasks per day, and everything else is a bonus. It's a small change that made a huge difference in my stress levels.
