How to Structure Your First Notion Template (Without Overcomplicating It)

Every template I sell starts with the same three layers: the hub, the database, and the views. The hub is your landing page — the place where you land and see what's what. It's not a dashboard full of widgets; it's a simple menu with links to the important stuff. The database is where your actual work lives — projects, tasks, ideas, whatever. And the views are just different ways to slice that database: by status, by date, by client.
Most people overcomplicate templates by adding too many properties and relations. I've made that mistake. When I rebuilt my own client hub, I cut the number of properties from 22 to 8. Nothing broke. Everything got easier to understand and faster to update. The test is: if you can't explain the purpose of a property in one sentence, delete it.
The key is to let the template evolve. Start with a minimal version, use it for a week, and note what's annoying. Then adjust. That's how you end up with a system that actually works for you — not a copy of someone else's.
