Why your Notion workspace feels like a chore (and how to fix it)

If your Notion setup is collecting dust, the problem isn't you — it's the system. Here's how to build one you'll actually use.

I see it all the time: a creator spends a weekend building a beautiful Notion dashboard, then never opens it again. The reason is almost always the same — too many databases, too much friction, too little context.

The fix is brutal simplicity. Start with one page: your daily dashboard. It should have three sections: today's priorities, a quick capture inbox, and a link to your projects. That's it. Add more only when you feel the pain of not having it.

Second, stop trying to track everything. You don't need a database for every micro-task. Use simple to-do lists inside a page. Databases are for things you review weekly — clients, content, goals.

Third, make it look good. A clean layout with consistent colors and icons isn't vanity. It reduces cognitive load. When your workspace is pleasant to look at, you're more likely to use it. That's the whole game.
